About Buckwheat Honey

Our buckwheat honey is a dark monofloral honey made by bees from the nectar of buckwheat flower. Buckwheat is culinary used in place of wheat, but buckwheat isn’t a type of grass, and is not related to wheat. It is related to sorrel, knotweed, and rhubarb. Therefore, buckwheat is also free of gluten.

Buckwheat flowers have dark nectar, even though its petals are white, which produces its rich dark colour of the honey. This dark colour is also the sign of its high level of antioxidants present in the honey. We pride ourselves in the purity of our buckwheat honey by placing the beehives in the middle of large buckwheat fields, and thus producing much darker honey than you would typically see on the market.

What We Offer

Antibiotics Free

Our bees are raised without the use of antibiotics and we can do this because our bees only forage from the pristine boreal forest, free of pollutants and diseases common to others.

Single Source

Not blended with any other honey. It comes entirely from the boreal forest of Ontario and Quebec.

Canadian

100% Purely Canadian honey. Never mixed with foreign honey.

Unheated

Our honey is never heated beyond what would be normal inside a beehive. This retains the superior quality of the honey and its healthful enzymes.

Tested Annually for Traces of Pesticides and Antibiotics

All of our honey is tested annually for traces of pesticides and antibiotics—a level of care rarely seen in the honey market.

Unlike most commercial beekeeping operations, which involve frequent travel for pollination and expose bees to harmful pesticides and disease, OneRoot takes a different approach.

Our bees thrive in a clean, stable, healthy environment and are only moved during winter for storage and processing, or if a location fails to meet our rigorous standards. This allows us to produce pure, high-quality honey without the use of antibiotics or contamination from pesticides.

Choose OneRoot honey for a cleaner, safer, and more natural taste you can trust.
